“Shifting perceptions of art, ability and community” is a core intention of the WAE Center in all collaborations. This exhibit marks the first time working with Studio Montclair on an arts education project. The WAE Center and Studio Montclair have shared a long and fruitful relationship with this exhibit being the first of its kind. Incentivized by the COVID-19 Pandemic, yearning for ways to bring artists together and out into the community; the Portrait Project emerged in 2021 to do just that!
Over the course of a few months, WAE Center art facilitators have introduced the art of portraiture to our members and participants. With the goal of creating a self-portrait, an active study of well-known self- portraits and portrayals, facial structure and expressions, spatial awareness, and perspective was accomplished. There was much discovery and laughter as the exploration of a new subject often provides. We are elated to share the resulting exhibit.
Please note, Studio Montclair are requesting participants wear masks due to the nature of a congregate setting. The number of participants in the space is limited to 16, so please register for the Opening Reception at the link below.
