March 9, 2022 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) Artists with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and LGBTQ+ Allies are encouraged to submit artworks for Portraiture of Pride: Symbol of Self Exhibition in Summer 2022. We are seeking self-portraits that express the artist’s individual “spark within” and that may also reflect diverse viewpoints of the LGBTQ+ experience. Artists’ self-portraits are an interesting sub-group of portraiture and can often be highly self-revelatory. A self-portrait doesn’t necessarily include a realistic or straightforward representation of the artist; sometimes a self-portrait includes inanimate objects or abstract symbols that represent the artist. Artists sometimes include depictions of themselves in larger group portraits with other people or animals; or may include a self-portrait in in another type of composition – such as a landscape. The exhibition will take place online. Entry Deadline: 5/18/22 Requirements Total Entries Per Person – Maximum: 2 JPG images Entry Fee: There is no entry fee for “Portraiture of Pride”: The Symbol of Self Exhibition. The WAE Center will receive 20% of the sales price from works sold through this exhibition to cover administrative costs. Artists must submit at least one “Artist Statement” that explains the inspiration for their work(s). If you do not self-identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning or Intersex but are a Caregiver or an Ally and or are a person with IDD or ASD and adhere to the exhibition theme you may also submit artwork for consideration. Categories Accepted Fine Art: Painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, assemblage, collage, mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, poetry. No video, film, performance art, or installation art. The use of any model for photography must be accompanied with a model release form (The WAE center can provided blank release forms upon request). Models must also be 18 years or older. Nude photography is not permitted for this exhibition. Submissions must be the artist’s original work. Submission Deadline: May 18, 2022 Complete information including images of artwork must be submitted online. Include with the image the medium used and the dimensions of the work. Artist will need to provide a sale price for each piece they submit. Artists who sell work through the exhibit should be aware that JSDD’s WAE Center charges a 20% commission fee for each sold piece of art to cover administrative, hosting, promotional and sales transaction costs. If offering their work for sale in the exhibition, artists must be able to deliver or ship their artwork to the WAE Center in Livingston, NJ and the artist must indicate if the work is framed or unframed. WAE Center staff will offer advice on best packaging and shipping practices, but the artist will ultimately be responsible for delivering the artwork without damage. Artwork will be selected by a panel of jurors determined by the WAE Center.
